Q:

Why doesn't the clinic have a list that tells me what shots I need for my travel?

A:

People traveling to the same country may need different shots. It takes more than the country of destination to determine which shots are needed.

Q:

How do I figure out what shots I should get?

A:

To determine your shots, we have to access your health risk when traveling to a particular area of the world. There are multiple factors that determine your health risk such as where you are going, what part of the country you are in, what will your activities be, type of lodging, how long you are going to be there, etc.. It is only after we determine your health risk that we can recommend what shots you should get.

Q:

How far ahead of my trip should I get my shots?

A:

Ideally, you can start six months before your trip. If that is not possible as with most people), six weeks ahead is a good lead time. It is never too late to get certain shots. We may give Hepatitis A even on your way to the airport.

Q:

Will my health insurance, Health maintenance Organization or Medicare cover the travel health preparation such as vaccinations?

A:

Usually these services are not covered. Rarely, some insurance companies may cover the services in part or whole.
